Held in Trust — Book Launch Snippet

About the Book

“Held in Trust” is a book for family, of family, by family — the very first printed about our Whakakī Peakman whānau. It honours those who kept a spot warm for us through the years, so we too could walk freely on our whenua in places they walked. There is nothing so thrilling as to walk on whenua that was toiled for and loved by your tīpuna.

This book is a taonga tuku iho — a treasured inheritance carrying the mana, memories, and wisdom of our whānau through generations. Arohanui to those who supported the mahi by providing photographs. I know your descendants will thank you for it. I remember Huki Solomon telling me that when he was compiling the yellow Jubilee book he asked for contributions. They never came, so he and his cohorts put the book together — an effort for which we are most grateful today. Let that be a lesson to us.
